GALDER, the long-time DIMMU BORGIR guitarist, announced his departure from the band. Galder will be at Bosphorus Open Air Metal Fest 2025 with OLD MAN’S CHILD!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Longtime\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0guitarist\u00a0Galder<\/strong>\u00a0(real name\u00a0Thomas Rune Andersen<\/strong>) has announced his departure from the band.<\/p>\n

On Sunday (August 18),Galder<\/strong>\u00a0took to his social media to write: “..Announcement.. Yesterday I played my last show with\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“After almost 25 years of making music and playing with\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0I have decided to leave the band.<\/p>\n

“I have been thinking about this for years and as many of you have been pointing out \u2014 it’s time for\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>\u00a0to get on stage again and finalizing the new album.<\/p>\n

“I wish the best for the other members of the band moving
\nforward.”<\/p>\n

The now-47-year-old\u00a0Galder<\/strong>\u00a0played his final concert with\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0on Saturday (August 17) as the headliner of the main stage at\u00a0Dynamo Metal Fest<\/strong>\u00a0in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Galder<\/strong>\u00a0is a founding member of the melodic black metal band\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>, with whom he has released one EP and seven studio albums between 1994 and 2009.<\/p>\n

In a 2010 interview with\u00a0Guitar Messenger<\/strong>,\u00a0Galder<\/strong>\u00a0stated about balancing\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>: “It’s not really that abnormal to have different bands when you play in the black metal scene. Most of the musicians, they play in like three or four different bands.\u00a0DIMMU<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the biggest bands in the black metal scene, so we tour a lot, but with\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>\u00a0I don’t tour so much. If I was out on the road with a band for four or five months, I wouldn’t be able to do it. But since we don’t tour that much, I am able to do the two bands. It’s been working really good \u2014 no problems so far. It’s been very smooth.”<\/p>\n

Asked if he stepped back from\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>\u00a0because\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0had taken up so much of his time,\u00a0Galder<\/strong>\u00a0responded: “No, that’s not really the reason. I feel like the two bands are pretty equal \u2014 so why play in two equal bands or release two similar albums? I like to focus on\u00a0DIMMU BORGIR<\/strong>\u00a0right now and do my best there. Then when I have the time, I might record another album [with\u00a0OLD MAN’S CHILD<\/strong>]. We’ll see.”<\/p>\n
