Amorphis

Amorphis is a heavy metal band formed in Finland in 1990. The band initially started out in death metal and doom metal, but over time they incorporated folk, progressive rock and melodic metal into their music. The band draws inspiration from Finnish mythology and the epic “Kalevala” stories in particular, which has helped them develop a unique style.

Tales from the Thousand Lakes (1994): This album, which was Amorphis’ big break, includes the band’s death metal and doom metal influences and is based on Finland’s epic narratives.

Elegy (1996): This is the album where melodic elements and clean vocals began to take more place in the band’s music. Progressive elements became more prominent with this album.
Skyforger (2009): This album, in which the band adopted a more symphonic and epic narrative, is one of the works that strengthened Amorphis’ unique style. The song “Skyforger”, which is the name of the album, is quite popular.

The current and former members of Amorphis include vocalist Tomi Joutsen, guitarists Esa Holopainen and Tomi Koivusaari. The band’s music has a respected place in the metal music scene thanks to its melodic structure and mythological themes.

Band members:

Tomi Joutsen (Vocals, 2005-present): Joining the band in 2005, Joutsen adds variety to Amorphis’ vocal style, successfully using both brutal vocals and clean vocals. Joutsen is considered one of the iconic voices of the band’s modern era.
Esa Holopainen (Guitar, 1990-present): One of the founders of Amorphis, Holopainen is the guitarist who shaped the band’s basic musical style. His melodic and atmospheric style plays a big role in Amorphis’ unique music.

Tomi Koivusaari (Rhythm Guitar and former vocalist, 1990-present): Koivusaari took on vocals in the band’s early years, but later focused on rhythm guitar. He is known for his powerful guitar riffs that reflect Amorphis’ heavy style.

Santire Kallio (Keyboard, 1999-present): Kallio brings progressive and symphonic elements to Amorphis’ music, providing a particularly atmospheric and epic touch.

Olli-Pekka Laine (Bass Guitar, 1990-2000, 2017-present): One of the band’s founding members, Laine rejoined the band in 2017 after leaving in 2000. He established the band’s basic sound with the bass tones he played on Amorphis’ early albums.
Jan Rechberger (Drums, 1990-1996, 2002-present): A founding member, Rechberger has contributed to Amorphis’ music continuously, except for a brief absence. His rhythmic contributions have helped the band create a unique style within the metal genre.
